Welcome to music at St Mary’s school, a subject that has the power to nurture and build the self- confidence of every child. We strongly believe all children have the right to experience, enjoy and achieve music and our school and know that this is evident
The use of specialist teachers within the school allows for the delivery of a broad and deep curriculum. Music is also used by staff (other than the music specialists), to further many areas of the curriculum. Music enhances the sense of community within the school and the children of St. Mary’s are given a wide range of opportunities, to perform, listen and create music that reflects a multi-cultural society.
All of our children will learn to sing, play percussion and play recorder and guitar and can access the musical curriculum, whatever their personal needs. Any child who wishes, can have instrumental music lessons with the visiting peripatetic music team. We have two school choirs who take part in our local Coastal Alliance singing festivals, as well as travelling out to our local community to sing at supermarkets, nursing homes and church community social clubs. Every year group participates in a musical show at least once a year, which may be a Christmas or Easter production, an end of year event or even our big concert at the local Secondary school. All these events are great opportunities for our creative and hardworking little musicians to shine.
