St Mary's Catholic Primary School
This is our school, let peace dwell here
School Council
At St Mary’s we have a very active School Council, eager to participate in all aspects of school life as well as across the local schools’ Coastal Alliance. Councillors from Years 2,3,4,5 and 6 meet at lunchtime as often as possible to discuss how current initiatives are developing and any future plans we may have.
Our Council also work closely with the Coastal Alliance Pupil Forum to take part in local projects to help others.
Houses
At St Mary’s we want the children to strive to be: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-Minded, Risk-Takers, Caring, Balanced and Reflective. We hope to nurture these attributes in the children throughout their school career.
The House system is linked to our school merit system where children can earn ‘House points’ for demonstrating any of the attributes aforementioned, as well as effort for class work.
Our Houses are named after 4 saints:
St Mother Teresa
St Óscar Romero
St Vincent De Paul
St Bernadette
We wanted to include more modern saints, who had been canonised recently, and St Vincent was chosen due to the strong links with the local SVP Society.
St Bernadette’s devotion to Our Lady and the Rosary is also very appropriate for our school.
