RE Intent
“My commandment is this – love one another just as I love you.” John 15:12
The teachings of Jesus are central to everything we do at St Mary’s School. It is in the warmth of His love and the embracing of The Scriptures that we grow and learn together.
During your time at St Mary’s, you will be offered the opportunity to attend school and parish masses both in our local church and here at school. We share prayer times together throughout the day in class groups and at assemblies, which are led by staff and children, highlighting and celebrating the needs and successes of our school, our parish and our world. Our beautiful prayer garden provides quiet spaces for personal prayer and contemplation. Our Youth Ministry Team, led by children from Years 5 and 6, organise both our Rosary Prayer Group and our Mini-Vinnies Group. These groups are open to all children who would like to make a difference. Once you have reached Year 4, there will be regular opportunities for you to attend the Sacrament of Confession, if you choose to. Our Year 6 children attend the ‘Picnic and Praise’ Day at Aylesford Priory. This day of retreat and reflection is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet and spend time with other children from schools in our Diocese. If you love music and singing, perhaps you would like to get involved with our choir or our Worship Band; they provide the liturgical music for many of our masses, assemblies and productions throughout the year.
We encourage in our children, an understanding of their own value and importance as individuals, to promote their spiritual growth and social development so that they can learn to give and share as well as to receive.
We provide each child with a framework for life based on the truth and wisdom of the Gospel using ‘The Way, The Truth and The Life’ and other resources. We provide opportunities for celebration, prayer and reflection.
