St Mary's Catholic Primary School
This is our school, let peace dwell here
Latest News!
Today, a group of children in Years 3 and 4 attended a writing workshop with Alan Durant. He talked about his love of reading, why he became a writer and read a short story of his own creation. The children then had a go at generating their own ideas using story dice. After discussing the themes of some of his books, the children used shells, buttons and teeth as inspiration for their own stories. Alan shared brilliant advice with the children about how to improve and adapt their stories and they shared their wonderful creations with children from different schools in the area. Well done!
A few photos of our 'crazy hair' on Red Nose Day last week. A big thank you from the school council for all of your creative 'designs' and donations for a great cause.
At Parent's Evening tonight there will be a book stall in St Paul's classroom and this will be run by Tamara Macfarlane of Tales on Moon Lane.
Congratulations to our fantastic netball team who had a 2-1 win against Reculver in yesterday's match. Special mention to player of the math, Alana Porter, who was brilliant in defence.
On Thursday, Luna took the Kindness Award winners and World Book Day costume winners to visit Tales on Moon Lane. We enjoyed a story with Jenny, before using our book tokens to each get one of the World Book Day books.
We had the wonderful privilege of welcoming PC Jordan Powell in to St Mary’s today. (Although the children thought he was called PC Power!💥)
The EYFS and Y1 children were fascinated looking around his police van and listening to the four different types of siren and even making up dances to match each sound.🚨 We all enjoyed trying on PC Powell’s uniform!
The Y3 children enjoyed finding out more about PC Powell’s role, especially how handcuffs work! The rest of the school enjoyed talking to him during break time and I’m sure we will be booking a return visit soon.
Thank you PC Powell, we’re glad that you enjoyed your lunch with the children too.
World Book Day 2024 - Fundraising Campaign
In the build up to World Book Day this year, we are asking our school community to donate towards the purchase of the Read For Empathy primary collection of books. These books really support the ethos and values of St Mary's Catholic Primary School and we hope that you will be able to support us in raising the funds to purchase these. A donation of just £1.50 per child in school would take us over our fundraising aim; let's see how much we can raise together before the 7th March!
