Foundation governors are selected by the appointing body to which the school is attached. They are appointed to preserve and develop the religious character of the school and to secure compliance with the trust deed.
Staff governors are elected by the school staff. Both teaching and support staff paid to work at the school are eligible to be staff governors. The Headteacher is automatically a member of the governing body.
Parent governors are elected by parents of pupils on the school roll at the time of election. They must be parents of pupils on the school roll themselves to stand for election.

I have two daughters at St Mary’s (one in the Infants and one in the Juniors) who are the fourth generation of our family to attend the school, hence I am passionate about supporting and being part of the community. With my work ‘hat’ on I am a Primary School Teacher specialising in SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). I have worked in a number of challenging schools (with a responsibility for Safeguarding and Child Protection), been a leading teacher for SEND, a lecturer at Christ Church University and earned a Masters Degree in Literacy. Therefore, the skills I bring to the Governing Body are focused on Teaching, Learning & Inclusion. I am the Link Governor for SEND, Numeracy, Safeguarding, Early Years and sit on the Admissions and Curriculum Committees.
As a Foundation Governor, I am also responsible for monitoring the spiritual and emotional wellbeing of our pupils. Promoting the links to the Church and ensuring the Catholic Faith which is taught throughout the school is a vital role. I try to spend as much time as possible in school getting to know all the pupils and ensuring that we, as Governors, are monitoring and supporting the school effectively.
Mrs Jennifer Webber - Vice Chair (Foundation Governor) Term of Office 03/07/15 - 02/07/19
Presently employed as a teacher of English at Kent College, Canterbury.
Have worked in education for 27 years, teaching in a range of establishments in India and the UK. In addition, I was employed by Kent County Council as a Peer Mentor Project Co-ordinator in several schools across Kent. I set up and supported numerous projects in secondary schools in Swale, Ashford and Maidstone. I have an M.A. in English Literature and a PGCE in secondary teaching of English and Drama.
I have a son and a daughter at secondary school. My position is that of a Foundation governor since June 2007. My area of focus is Literacy, along with Anne Cameron and am also, chairperson of the Complaints Committee.
Over the years, I have worked closely with the Literacy Co-ordinator at St Mary’s, sharing ideas and practice concerning all aspects of literary, supporting current systems, whilst also exploring new ventures to encourage reading for pleasure and purpose.
Beyond education, my interests are travel, music, literary pursuits, drama, sports and voluntary work.
Mr P Salvatori (Foundation Governor)

I am a parishioner at Our Lady Immaculate, where I regularly serve on the altar and am a Special Eucharistic Minister. I am now working as a consultant in our family Foodservice business, which I started with my father in 1963. My son Robert now runs the business which is based in Whitstable employing around 25 people. I have been married for 47 years, have three children & eleven grandchildren. My connection with St Mary's starts with my wife, then my son & up until last year three of my grandchildren.
As a new governor, I am looking forward to the challenges of being a Foundation Governor, and hope that I will be able to contribute to what I see as a good school.

I am married to Joy. We have 4 children and our youngest follows in our older children's footsteps and currently attends St Mary's. I am an active member of the Whitstable Parish and attend Mass at the Church of Our Lady Immaculate. I am a Contract Manager with many years experiance working in local government.
I have a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, both of which are extremely useful in enabling me to make a positive contribution to the effective running of the school's Governing Body. I am keen to ensure that the strong Catholic ethos continues to influence the life of our school community with Christ at the centre of everything we do.
I want to play my part in positively influencing the life chances of the children that attened St Mary's with the expectation that they go on to be positive, highly efficatious members of society.
Mrs Maggie Lund (Staff Governor)

My three daughters attended St Mary’s and I have taught here for 20 years. Much of that time was a job share with Mrs Pam Marsh and we taught in most of the KS2 year groups. When Mrs Marsh retired, I took on more hours, but this time, job sharing with Ms Wood in Yr 5. I am currently job sharing with Mrs Dalton in Yr 4.
As a teacher, I am committed to effective teaching and learning in my classroom, but I also believe strongly in the importance of our Catholic ethos, to develop the spiritual side of the children in our care. As a governor, I am on the Admissions Committee but I also look forward to having a better overview of the school which is key to maintaining our high standards.
My other role is PE Co-ordinator; a position that I have held for many years and am still dedicated to the development of PE in our school. I happily give much of my time to promote the involvement of children in sport.
I am fortunate that I am still able to play hockey every week, but it may soon be time to look for something gentler to do as a hobby!
Mr Christopher Wright (Academy Executive Principal)

I am currently the Headteacher at St Mary’s but originally took up the position of ‘Teacher Governor’ in 2011. I started teaching in 1999 and have taught in every year group from Years 2-6. From 2003-2007 my wife and I moved to Hong Kong to teach in a ‘Private International School’ and we also volunteered at a children’s orphanage at the weekends. After the birth of our first daughter in 2007 we returned to England and I began teaching at St Mary’s. In my time at St Mary’s I have been Science Co-ordinator from 2009-2012, Numeracy Leader, Deputy Headteacher from 2013 & finally Headteacher from Easter 2016.
I am passionate about education and from my own personal experiences I know what a difference a good education can make to a child’s life chances. I believe every child can succeed and that schools must provide a broad and balanced curriculum to inspire and motivate children to reach their full potential.
My colleagues describe me as enthusiastic, encouraging, unflappable and competitive! I live in Reculver with my wife Amy and our three children Jasmine, Lauren and Esme.

With 2 children at St Mary's, and another joining soon, I have a vested interest in developing our schools culture, standards, results and teachers. Working in Finance & HR in the Health & Wellbeing sector, focusing on people's ability to 'live life to the full', my approach to being a parent governor will be positive yet challenging.

I have two girls at St Mary's and one who will start in 2018. I am a nurse at
Whitstable Medical Practice and believe that children's physical health, mental health and school education are inseparable. I am passionate, friendly, dedicated and I will contribute to this wonderful school by using my nursing experience, Health & Safety and Public Health professional background.

The Local Governing Body (LGB) meet 5 times per year to carry out its work plus one additional ‘Forward Look’ meeting to map out future priorities. In addition, there are four permanent committees that meet on a regular basis and report back to the LGB.
